Shares of Tesla Inc. TSLA jumped 6% in premarket trading Friday, after the electric-vehicle giant said its first-quarter vehicle deliveries beat Wall Street’s expectations.

Tesla delivered 386,810 vehicles in the first quarter, according to a press release, beating the FactSet consensus estimate of 368,745.

That’s up from 380,810 vehicles delivered in the fourth quarter, but down from 422,875 vehicles delivered in the first quarter of 2023.

“While the first quarter deliveries were slightly above expectations, the year-over-year decline is concerning,” said Wedbush analyst Dan Ives in a note to clients. “This remains a pivotal year for Tesla as the company navigates a more competitive EV landscape.”

Tesla has been cutting prices on its vehicles in recent months to boost demand, which has put pressure on its profit margins.

The company is scheduled to report its first-quarter earnings on April 23.
