Tesla Inc. may finally unveil a flying car today, after testing fans’ patience for nearly a decade.

The electric-vehicle giant is set to reintroduce the Roadster sports car, which was first promised in 2017, at an event at its Austin, Texas, factory, according to multiple reports.

But the big question is whether the Roadster will take to the skies. Elon Musk has teased the possibility of equipping the vehicle with SpaceX thrusters, allowing it to take off and land vertically.

“Roadster reveal tonight,” Musk tweeted on Tuesday. “Something special is coming.”

The Roadster was originally slated to launch in 2020, but its release has been repeatedly delayed. Musk has blamed supply-chain issues and production challenges for the setbacks.

In 2018, Musk said the Roadster would be able to fly, but he later walked back those comments, saying it was “probably” not going to happen.

However, in 2022, Musk again hinted at the possibility of a flying Roadster, saying it would be “a bit of a challenge” but “not impossible.”

The Roadster is expected to have a range of 620 miles and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 1.9 seconds.

If the Roadster does indeed take to the skies, it would be a major milestone for Tesla and the broader automotive industry. It would also be a testament to Musk’s ambitious vision for the future of transportation.
