Phantom Blade Zero devs say the game needs 300 GB of free space for the pre-load process, alongside updated system requirements

Phantom Blade Zero, the upcoming action RPG from Chinese studio S-Game, is looking mighty impressive, and the Unreal Engine 5 game even has fairly modest system requirements too. Yet, according to the latest update from the devs, you will need quite a lot of room on your SSD if you plan on playing it.
Taking to its X account, Phantom Blade Zero's developer gave some information before the launch date, October 28. The studio clarifies the game is a whopping 145 GB once installed, and you will need "at least 300 GB of free disk space for the pre-load process."
That is a hefty install size, and a hefty amount of temporary space to keep free for the preload decompression, too. The studio also clarifies you need an SSD to play the game, and instructs users to download the latest graphics drivers ahead of the big day. The pre-load process starts on October 26.
Minimum | Recommended | |
Processor | Intel Core i7 8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
Graphics card | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB
Storage | 145 GB (SSD required) | 145 GB (SSD required) |
Notes | Ray tracing and path tracing disabled / 1080p 30 fps with upscaling | Ray tracing and path tracing disabled / 1440p 60 fps with upscaling |
The other system requirements aren't too bad, with an Intel Core i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT needed to run the game on Minimum settings.
Minimum in this case, however, means getting 30 fps at 1080p resolution, presumably on the lowest graphical settings with upscaling enabled. We don't yet know what kind of upscaling is being used for this requirement.
To play the game at its recommended settings (1440p at 60 fps), you will need an Intel Core i5 10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT.
These specs don't seem too bad for an Unreal Engine 5 game, though we don't know exactly which graphical settings or upscaling settings are being used to get this figure.
Still, for many, the biggest problem will be that monstrous preload and install size. I know I personally don't have a single game on my SSD as big as Phantom Blade Zero, and I'd want to make some room before the big day. 145 GB could fit around 2,400 copies of Balatro, so I've just got to hope it's worth it.
