پی‌سی وی، کاریکاتوریست مشهور مجله نیویورکر، در سن ۷۰ سالگی درگذشت. آثار او با نگاهی طنزآمیز به پوچ‌گرایی زندگی روزمره می‌پرداخت.

P.C. Vey, whose cartoons for The New Yorker skewered the absurdities of modern life with a sly, minimalist wit, died on Thursday in Manhattan. He was 70.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Marcia Vey, who said he had been diagnosed with leukemia in August.

For more than four decades, Mr. Vey was a fixture in the pages of The New Yorker, his cartoons appearing alongside those of such celebrated artists as Charles Addams, Roz Chast and Edward Koren. His work, often rendered in a deceptively simple style, captured the quiet desperation and social awkwardness of contemporary existence.

He was born Peter Christopher Vey on Feb. 25, 1956, in New Rochelle, N.Y. His father, Robert Vey, was a lawyer, and his mother, the former Eleanor Smith, was a homemaker. He graduated from Yale University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in art.

Mr. Vey began submitting cartoons to The New Yorker while still a student at Yale. His first cartoon was published in the magazine in 1976. He continued to contribute regularly, eventually becoming one of the magazine’s most recognizable cartoonists.

His cartoons often featured ordinary people in mundane situations, but with a twist of the surreal or the unexpected. He had a knack for finding humor in the everyday, and his work resonated with readers who recognized themselves in his characters.

“He had a very distinctive style,” said Francoise Mouly, the art editor of The New Yorker, who worked with Mr. Vey for many years. “It was very clean and precise, but also very funny. He could say a lot with very little.”

Mr. Vey’s cartoons have been collected in several books, including “The Vey Collection” (1993) and “P.C. Vey: New Yorker Covers” (2002).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Amelia Vey, and a son, Julian Vey.
