NBCUniversal’s Peacock launched a limited new membership program in a beta test with a variety of perks — aimed at keeping them from flying the coop as streaming subscribers. The test of Peacock’s membership program is available initially to a limited, “randomly selected” group of Peacock Premium and Premium Plus subscribers, according to NBCU.
“Through the program, members can earn points for watching content, engaging with Peacock’s social media, and completing surveys,” Variety reports. Points can then be redeemed for rewards such as discounts on NBCUniversal and Bravo merchandise, free pizzas, and early access to select content.
The rewards program is tiered, with higher tiers offering more valuable perks. For example, members who reach the highest tier can receive a free pizza every month. NBCUniversal is also testing different types of rewards to see what resonates most with subscribers.
The launch of the membership program comes as the streaming industry faces increasing competition. Peacock is looking for ways to differentiate itself from other streaming services and attract and retain subscribers. The company hopes that the rewards program will be a key part of its strategy.
The test program is expected to run for several months. NBCUniversal will then evaluate the results and decide whether to launch the program more broadly.
