A reduction in the growth multiple that investors are prepared to pay for AI stocks and a rise in volatility has forced Goldman strategist Tim Moe to take an axe to his Korean market target.
Goldman Sachs has lowered its forecast for the Kospi index, the benchmark for South Korea's stock market, by 25% after a surge in AI stocks and other technology shares in recent months.
The move comes as the global AI trade continues to grow, with more companies entering the market and investment in AI technology increasing.
Tim Moe, the head of global macro strategy at Goldman Sachs, said that the growth multiple for AI stocks has come down from around 25x to around 20x, reflecting a more cautious approach by investors.
Moe also noted that the rise in volatility in the market has made it more difficult for investors to predict market movements and has led to a decrease in the attractiveness of the Korean market.
He said that the Korean market has become more expensive compared to other markets and that investors are now looking for better opportunities elsewhere.
Goldman Sachs' downgrade of the Kospi index is a sign of caution in the market and a reflection of the increasing uncertainty surrounding the global AI trade.
